We Are a Failed State...But We Don't Have to Be

It's 2020, and we're still using our police forces as slave patrols. This week, we lost YET ANOTHER unarmed black man to police violence. As riots ensue all over the nation and the person in the White House posing as a president instigates more violence, we find ourselves at the same point we do after a mass shooting: we plead for systemic change and none comes. Are we going to start seeing it now?

As we have officially surpassed the 100,000 mark in COVID-19 deaths. Since the person in the White House posing as a president has liken our response to the pandemic to a war, I compare the numbers of virus fatalities to all our American wars

The Navajo nation now holds the most confirmed cases of coronavirus/COVID-19, surpassing New York. Yet the Indian Health Service acknowledged  that a million respirator masks it purchased from a former Trump White House official do not meet FDA standards for “use in healthcare settings by health care providers.”

Exactly what we would expect from this inept administration.

The virus is changing everything about our country, including how we vote--six months before the most consequential election in recent memory.

Speaking of the person in the White House posing as a president, he had a hissy fit over Twitter adding a caveat to a lie he tweeted over about mail-voting. Screaming about his First Amendment rights being infringed, he issued an executive order intended to examine Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996--just what any rational leader in a constitutionally limited democratic republic would do.

China’s parliament has approved a new law that criminalizes any conduct in Hong Kong that harms national security--including disrespecting the Chinese national anthem. Although our State Dept. criticized the law, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has told Congress that the U.S. no longer views Hong Kong as fully autonomous from China. Is it just me, or can you see this country taking a similar cue?

Trailblazing AIDS Activist Larry Kramer died this week. Did you hear about in the corporate media?

I'm still interested in speaking to frontline medical workers comfortable with speaking about their experiencing battling COVID-19 in our hospital, nursing homes, and medical clinics. If you interested, please tweet me @tedmillar.

Ditto Canadians and those with first-hand experience with the Canadian healthcare system.
