Finally, now that Joe Biden is the presumptive Democratic nominee, we need to do our part in pushing him away from the Biden of yesteryear to the FDR-esque progressive he can be. This is not the time to cross our arms, hold our breath, and stamp our feet because Bernie Sanders dropped out. Bernie even he endorsed Biden this week because he understands the existential threat we all face with orange Twittler in the White House. Another Trump term could spell the end of our republic. That's not hyperbole. Re-read how I concluded the first paragraph.
This is not a time to go all "Bernie or bust". Bernie himself calls that stance "irresponsible". Those who truly subscribe to Bernie's message and believe in his vision for a better country will do the right thing and work like hell to get Joe Biden elected.
Of course, the question about which Biden we will be getting is a legitimate one. To that I say it is up to us to do everything within our control to make him as progressive as we can. That's our job. We mustn't make the mistake we made in 2009 after Barack Obama walked into the White House and the progressive movement that helped put him there packed up and went home as if the fight was won. If we stay on Joe and don't stop fighting for a better America, a more progressive America, we have a real chance of turning this ship around. Right now, though, it's headed for the falls--fast.
